Flower Michelin present at MEIA debate "How Moving Elements can Transform Urban Spaces"
Alex Flower joined representatives from Zac Monro Architects and Soup to discuss the philosophy, current status and future opportunities of ‘How Moving Elements can Transform Urban Spaces’. The talk, hosted by moving elements specialists MEIA, was fittingly held within the Paxton Locher designed Clerkenwell Green, whose large sliding roof launched the career of MEIA founder Monty Ravenscroft.
Both Alex Flower and Chantal Michelin were very involved in the Clerkenwell Green project whilst working at Paxton Locher, and reflected on the design’s innovative approach to the urban site’s constraints - made possible by moving elements. Over a decade on, the guests marvelled from the open plan internal/external courtyard as the large sliding roof transformed the landlocked space.
The presentations provoked much discussion on the benefits moving elements can bring to schemes like Clerkenwell Green, and on a much smaller scale Consort Road, unlocking sites, and creatively tackling spatial constraints – increasingly relevant in today’s constrictive London property market.
